Boat waiting at the island at Lake Bled, Slovenia
The Pletna boat is the traditional way to travel across the lake to the island at Lake Bled in Slovenia. The origin of these boats goes back to 1590, when they were used to transport passengers and pilgrims to the Church on the island. The boats have colourful awnings and are rowed across by a standing oarsman who have passed down the skill through generations of the same families. It’s still a magical feeling to drift across the lake on a boat.
