Hot air balloons over the temples at Bagan, Myanmar
Drifting in a balloon over Bagan as the sun rose was a highlight of our trip to Myanmar. Bagan is an ancient city on the eastern banks of the Ayeyarwady river, with more than 2000 stupas and Buddhists temples, many covered in gold leaf, which glint and sparkle in the sun. Up in a balloon, there’s no sound except for that of the gas burner, and the odd bird, which is so strange when moving over a country that still seems lost in time for now.
