The ‘Child of the Jago’ name of this clothing shop refers to the book written in 1896 by Arthur Morrison about a fictional child from the slums. The slum was the Old Nichol slum in Shoreditch which was cleared in the 1900’s and where the Boundary Estate was built. These flats were intended to house the 5719 inhabitants of the slums; however only 11 of them could afford the new rent of 3s a room; so they had to move into the old houses nearby, further East.
