Religion is a fashion boutique on Brick Lane in Shoreditch. It used to be one of the Truman Brewery pubs called the Two Brewers from 1839 until about 1986. You can still see the shadow from the Truman Brewery sign on the wall.

The ‘Child of the Jago’ name of this clothing shop refers to the book written in 1896 by Arthur Morrison about a fictional child from the slums. The slum was the Old Nichol slum in Shoreditch which was cleared in the 1900’s and where the Boundary Estate was built. These flats were intended to house the 5719 inhabitants of the slums; however only 11 of them could afford the new rent of 3s a room; so, they had to move into the old houses nearby, further East. 4 colour screen print, 30x40 cm, £80.
