This building was the Old Pitt’s Head pub from 1820 until 1925 when it was taken over by Forman Mark & co cabinet makers and it seems to have remained a centre for furniture in one form or another until this day. Its present owners make bespoke local craftsman’s contemporary furniture at mass produced prices. ‘Unto this Last’ is the title of John Ruskin’s book in which he recommends we return to support local craftsman rather than be seduced by the mass production caused by the Industrial revolution.
